Close-up, cropped version of the cover of The Mathematicians' Library, by Thomas K. Briggs. The bottom-middle of the image shows a semi-circle in which is inscribed the upper half of DaVinci's Vitruvian Man. Around this is another semi-circle containing the title of the book. Beyond this are hints of an old diagram of the heavens, with parts of curves indicating the tropics and orbits of planets, and pieces of images depicting the constellations of the zodiac.

The Mathematicians’ Library: The Books That Unlocked the Power of Numbers

The cover of the Mathematicians' Library by Thomas K. Briggs, subtitled 'The Books that Unlocked the Power of Numbers'. The title and subtitle surround a circular crop of DaVinci's 'Vitruvian Man', over a background of an ancient circular diagram of the solar system. The central Earth is obscured by the title and image, but the Sun can be seen, as can some diagrams representing signs of the zodiac.

Published on 11/09/2025, The Mathematicians’ Library (ISBN: 9781836004851) is an exploration of the development of mathematics through some of its most important publications. It’s aimed at people who are not necessarily ‘maths fans’ who are interested in finding out a bit more about how, where, and when the subject has featured in human history. In the words of one reader, “it is a history book covering literature, art and mathematics and how they can all link into each other and should not be considered in isolation.” Every page is packed with full-colour, high-quality images, making it not just a great read but a perfect addition to any coffee table.

There’s something for everyone here: enough detail to get you started if you want to burrow into a rabbit-hole, but not so much as to overwhelm.

Colin Beveridge (via the Aperiodical)

Far from an academic ‘maths book’, it is a book about maths; about the role that this most ancient of human endeavours has played in the development of humanity, and where its achievements have prompted – and been prompted by – growth in disciplines that many people in the modern world see as entirely separate.

My copy of this BEAUTIFUL BOOK has arrived and I cannot put it down! It is History Book about Art, Literature, Mathematics and more.
