I briefly consulted on a project by National Galleries Scotland to produce a resource aiming to inspire learning about maths through art. The resource is one of a number of Scottish museums’ contributions to Maths Week Scotland and takes the form of a document (available in either .pdf or .ppt format) presenting tasks and questions that “are deliberately open-ended to encourage learners to problem solve and think for themselves,” whilst exploring the art in mathematics, and the mathematics in art through themes such as tessellation, scale, favourite numbers, describing shapes, symmetry and patterns.
The resource, aimed at students from ages 6 – 12 (Scottish First and Second level), is available at the link below, with an Early Years version planned to be added before Maths Week:
