I had long entertained an idea of some sort of “codebreaker training course” accessible to people who were interested in finding more about how codes and ciphers work, but who did not necessarily see themselves as a ‘maths person’.

When I was working at Bletchley Park I recognised that there was widespread interest in understanding more about how codes and ciphers work, and how to break them. This Case Study, included in a research project by Katie Steckles and Peter Rowlett, details the resulting course, discussing practicalities surrounding its inception, implementation and evaluation.

    1. You can read about the research project at the link provided in the post. I’m not sure if it was developed beyond this, but both Katie and Peter are quite prolific on the maths education front, so visiting their websites and/or social media profiles will probably give you a good idea of what they’ve been up to.
