Learning Programme Analysis & Evaluation
No museum, gallery, library or archive service is static: any heritage sector organisation strives to improve what it already does and react to external changes whilst looking towards expanding both audiences and provision. I can support you in this journey by:
- using my museum learning experience to help you identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats relevant to your learning offer and its place within the broader organisation;
- putting into practice my skills as a mathematician to analyse existing quantitative and qualitative data about your programmes and, where necessary, devise techniques to collect and then analyse further information regarding, for example, currently untapped audience segments;
- combining the two to provide a detailed, data-supported evaluation of your learning offer complete with suggestions for furture development and recommendations for next steps.
I can provide a holistic service for your heritage learning consultancy needs, or join in as a specialist concentrating on a specific aspect.
Analysis & Evaluation Project Examples
I have conducted learning programme evaluation projects of varying sizes for a number of organisations, both independently and as part of a team of freelancers. Specific details of these projects cannot be shared as they are the intellectual property of their respective organisations, but general descriptions of some of these projects include:
- In preparation for the merging of two organisations each overseeing three heritage sites, an evaluation of all six sites was required, focusing on how these sites may work together productively.
- A local council with responsibility for a number of sites which had historically worked independently wanted to investigate how their respective programmes might be developed to work more holistically with each other.
- A industrial heritage site wanted to find the best ways expand its programme with limited resources in the face of local competition, including identifying the potential for meeting needs of new local audiences and exploring possible relationships with other local organisations.
Research Projects
I am a capable and imaginative researcher with a broad range of interests as well as skills and experience that cross multple sectors. Some examples of research projects completed so far include:
Resource Development
I have produced a range of resources both independently and with teams of other freelancers. Relevant projects have involved reviewing existing resources to identify mathematical themes and adapting them to make these themes more apparent; creating simple interactive activities; developing full digital resource packs; and devising and producing complete workshops, including training delivery staff so that they can be incorporated into a learning programme. I have also constructed some online training courses using the Open University’s free OpenLearn Create platform (including one about how to create your own courses using the Open University’s free OpenLearn Create platform).
Some examples of the broad range of resources that I have developed include:
